The stresses and strains of beekeeping – how to make life easier!
As beekeepers, we are always balancing the desire for many boxes full of honey, with the reality of lifting these boxes on and off the hive for inspections, and finally into our extracting room. We may all at times have struggled with lifting heavy boxes effectively, especially if you look after your bees on your own, and you may even have acquired ‘beekeepers back’ or other problems as a result.
This talk aims to reduce the stresses and strains of beekeeping . Geoff will cover various techniques to help keep you and your back healthier, and beekeeping more fun. He will look at (amongst other things) methods of separating boxes to get clean lifts, basic techniques for safe lifting, preparation including posture and stability and the treatment of heavy brood boxes.
This is the talk that we all needed at the beginning of our beekeeping career!
